School Staff – Susan Lamers

Meet Susan Lamers — 3-year old Pre-K Instructional Assistant

Why I love St. John School?

I grew up attending Catholic schools in Oshkosh….Sacred Heart and Lourdes Academy. I always felt safe and felt like part of a family. I wanted our boys to have similar experiences.  I love that St. John’s has smaller class sizes so you really get to know your classmates. I also love that St. John’s starts and ends the school day with prayer. What a great way to bring Faith into our children’s lives everyday!  As a staff member at St. John’s, I was welcomed with open arms by my fantastic co-workers, many of which I consider close friends. I also feel very blessed that we have such wonderful preschoolers, parents, and families. If we find ourselves needing some supplies or volunteers, all we have to do is ask.

My favorite part of teaching?

My favorite part about being a teaching assistant is the smile I see when a preschooler learns a new skill or creates something on their own.  Their hugs are pretty awesome, too!  “Children are a gift from God.” I am blessed that God has chosen me to work daily with so many of His precious gifts!

What I like to do outside of school?

I am married to Brian Lamers who is an alumni of St. John’s. We have two boys, Nolan and Nate, who have also attended St. John’s.  When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with family and friends. I also love watching and taking pictures of my boys playing sports.

My professional training

I have been working with Deenna Hietpas in the preschool as a teaching assistant since 2012. Prior to this, I worked at Midwest Dental for 10 years, at SuperValu Corporate Office, and at Plexus for 10 years.  I am very grateful for the knowledge and experiences I gained through my prior careers, but none of them have given me the fulfillment that I feel working with children.
