Lucille (Lucy) Des Jardins was one of three recipients of the Green Bay Diocesan Council of Catholic Women Golden Rose Award. As a member of our parish community, Lucy consistently demonstrates that her Catholic faith is not simply one aspect of her life—it is the foundation upon which she builds everything else. Whether at school, in parish life, through service opportunities, or in athletics, she approaches others with kindness, humility, and a genuine desire to reflect Christ’s love.
Lucy has remained deeply connected to her parish community throughout her life. As a child, she participated in the Little Flowers program and served as a Mass server. Today, she serves as a lector at Mass, has been a volunteer leader at Vacation Bible School and annually participates in our parish’s Feed My Starving Children event. She and her family are faithful members of our parish who regularly participate in Mass and parish activities.
Her commitment to spiritual growth extends well beyond the minimum expectations of a Catholic teenager. Lucy chose to participate in Xavier’s Kairos retreat experience and has attended the “She Leads” Conference twice, seeking opportunities to deepen both her faith and leadership skills. This summer she will attend her fourth Catholic Heart Work Camp, dedicating part of her summer vacation to serving others, and she will also participate in a Steubenville Youth Conference to continue growing in her relationship with Christ. These experiences demonstrate a young woman who actively seeks ways to strengthen her faith and put it into action.
One of the qualities about Lucy is the authenticity of her faith. In a culture that often pressures young people to blend in, Lucy is comfortable living her faith openly and joyfully. She does not seek recognition for her accomplishments, yet her example naturally inspires those around her. Younger students look up to her, peers respect her, and adults trust her because she consistently demonstrates integrity, responsibility, and genuine Christian discipleship.
