Meet Deena Hietpas — 3 & 4-year old Pre-K Teacher
Why I love St. John School?
I love St. John Nepomucene because it is like one huge family. Everyone looks after each other, and people come together to help each other out. It is a great community to be a part of and to work in. Our daughter attended school here from pre-k through 8th grade. I have always liked the fact that St. John’s teaching Christian values and that our kids learn about their faith as well as academics.
I started working at St. John School as an instructional aide in the library in 2002. A couple years later I filled a need for a part-time aide in the preschool. It was at that time that I fell in love with all things preschool and I went back to college to earn my associate degree in early childhood education. Afterward, I became a teacher at St. John’s Preschool and I have loved it ever since.
My favorite part of teaching?
I enjoy guiding the children as they start to build a foundation for their education. I enjoy facilitating lessons that spark countless “aha” moments as the children’s natural curiosity leads to new discoveries. I love teaching them how to become more independent and watching them grow.
What I like to do outside of school?
For fun, I like to spend time with my grandchildren, my family, and friends. I enjoy walking, biking, kayaking, motorcycling and bowling with my sisters and friends.
