Meet Tami Johnson — K-8 Spanish Teacher/Middle School Social Studies Teacher
Why I love St. John School?
Because we have such a loving and supportive community. The staff works together extremely well and I look forward to coming to work every day.
My favorite part of teaching?
Sharing my knowledge of the Spanish language and culture with my students. I feel that by exposing students to the language early on, they are a step ahead of the game as they continue through school. They are able to understand a great deal of the language, even though they may not feel confident in speaking it. I feel that I am providing important foundational skills for them to excel in the future. I also feel that by sharing cultural experiences, I’m opening their minds to how other people live and showing them that we have a tremendous amount in common with people around the globe.
What I like to do outside of school?
I love to travel, work in fiber arts, sing and play guitar, take long walks and hang out with my family, especially my grandkids.
My education
I graduated from UW-Madison with a BA in Spanish. I later earned my education credentials.
My professional training
Seminars on literacy, foreign language and literary/cultural/social justice topics concerning Latin America.
