Our first season of the new church year is Advent. Advent is NOT Christmas, even though it feels like it in the stores. Advent is a season of preparation for Christmas and it means Coming. Christmas is coming, so we prepare our hearts, our minds and our homes. The liturgical color of Advent, purple, is highly visible in clergy vestments and decorations because it is the color of fasting and penance. With candles, more lit every week, we recognize that Christ is the light shining forth in the darkness. The readings for the Advent Season prepare us for the holy birth of our blessed Savior.

The next liturgical season is the Christmas Season. Christmas begins, not ends, on December 25th and lasts through Epiphany which is on January 6th. This season is a joyful season, a season of celebration! We take down the purple decorations and vestments and clergy will wear white, the color of celebration.

So let’s plan this year to keep that tree up until January 6th and continue celebrating Christmas as it should be! A blessed Advent Season to all as you continue to prepare.

Each year at this time, St. John Nepomucene welcomes donations to the Christmas Flower Fund in memory of departed loved ones. Donations in any amount may be made at the parish office from now until December 13th. There will also be envelopes at the Information Desk too.

This not only enables us to decorate St. John Nepomucene during Christmas, but throughout the whole year!

Good seats are still available for all Christmas Stars performances, 7:00 pm on December 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 9th, 10th and 11th and 1:00 pm on December 4th, 5th, 11th and 12th.

Thursday shows, December 2nd and December 9th are family discount nights, with reduced prices for all tickets.

Christmas Stars is a spectacular, Broadway-style revue featuring performers ranging in age from kindergarten to senior citizen.

All performances are at the state-of-the-art, fully accessible Xavier Fine Arts Theatre in Appleton. Tickets are available at www.christmasstars.org or 920-733-8840.  The box office at the theatre now has expanded hours Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from noon until 3:00 pm through December 10th for phone orders and walk-up sales. Walk-up sales are also available one hour before each performance.

Please note: at this time, masks are required for all who enter the building during the school day.  Masks are optional for those attending performances.

Christmas Stars ticket sales open September 7th at 9:00 am online and at the box office from noon until 3:00 pm.

Come and be delighted by a spectacular Broadway-style revue featuring religious and secular holiday music performed by a cast of singers, dancers and actors ages five to senior citizen.  Experience the dazzling Christmas parade, a visit from Santa and the breathtaking “Living Nativity” finale. 

All performances will be held at the Xavier Fine Arts Theater located at 1600 Prospect Avenue in Appleton from December 2nd through December 12th.

An American Sign Language interpreter will be provided at the 1:00 pm performance on December 4th.  The fully accessible theatre is equipped with a hearing loop as well.

This not only enables us to decorate St. John Nepomucene during Christmas, but throughout the whole year!

Christmas Mass Times at St. John Nepomucene

The Diocese of Green Bay is giving permission to move the Vigil Mass from being able to start at 4:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Christmas Eve this year. This will help with COVID-19 and social distancing.

St. John Nepomucene will have the following Christmas Mass times:

Christmas Eve: 1:30 p.m., 4:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. There will be NO 10:00 p.m. Mass on Christmas Eve this year.

Christmas Day: 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.

St. John Home & School – Hometown Christmas Craft Sale Canceled

It is with heavy hearts that St. John Home & School Association has decided to cancel its 2020 Hometown Christmas Craft Sale due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Craft Sale was to be held on Sunday, November 8, 2020. It was to be our 35th year sponsoring this wonderful event.

We hope to make the Hometown Christmas Craft Sale an annual event again in 2021!

We anticipate returning on Sunday, November 7, 2021.
