Why is the Catholic Church known as Apostolic?

An unbroken chain of succession characterizes the hierarchy of the Catholic Church. Christ commissioned the Twelve Apostles, and each one of them in turn commissioned bishops, who in turn ordained other bishops and priests. So every priest and bishop alive today, including the pope and the patriarchs of the Eastern Churches, has a lineage that traces directly back to the Apostles. It is why the Church is known as an “Apostolic Church.”

2023 Raising Vocations Collection

2023 Raising Vocations Collection

Why is the Diocese starting the Raising Vocations Collection?

The Diocese of Green Bay has been blessed by the prayers and generosity of thousands of people. With the help of a beautiful, anonymous donation to the one by One campaign, our seminarians’ tuition, room and board, and the Kairos formation year expenses will be covered for five years.

This wonderful gift will allow our Diocese to shift the focus to supporting the efforts of helping more young men and women answer God’s call to a holy vocation. After months of prayerful discernment and having consulted with the Catholic Foundation team, Vocations Director, Rev. Mark C. Mleziva and Bishop David Ricken have decided that every parish in the Diocese will undertake a new campaign called the Raising Vocations Collection. This shift will help us further our Diocesan goal of calling forth and forming 30 men in seminary formation by 2025. These holy men have been formed by ministries that encourage our young people to explore their vocation.

How does your gift to the Raising Vocations Collection support Vocations?

This important collection supports ministries that help young men and women answer God’s call to a holy vocation. Some ministries that will benefit from the Raising Vocations Collection are campus ministry at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and campus ministry at our Catholic High School campuses. They will provide support to these young men and women through retreats, spiritual direction and being part of a Catholic community when they are away from home and journeying with their peers.

Vocations Events and other information may be found at the Diocesan website at: www.gbvocations.org.

August 9th – Traveling Rosary For Vocations

August 9th – Traveling Rosary For Vocations

Barb Kimme Memorial Traveling Rosary for Vocations: All men and women young and old, are invited to help us pray for our Diocese and an increase in vocations. According to the Vocation Ministry Analysis from 2015-2021, the state of priestly vocations in our Green Bay Diocese meets 3 criteria to be considered as “unhealthy”.

To help raise an awareness and assist in rectifying this situation, we the GB Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, have decided our best course of action is prayer to our Lord. We are sponsoring a sort of 9-month novena for vocations. We will gather at 9 different churches every 2nd Wednesday of the month from March – November. The agenda includes song, prayer, speaker and reception. Our fifth date and location is:

August 9th from 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm at St. Francis of Assisi Marshall site located at: 1114 S 21st Street in Manitowoc 54220. Please park in the 22nd St parking lot and enter the church through the church ramp door next to the rectory door.

FORMED Video of the Month for July – St. John Nepomucene

The FORMED Video of the Month is “Who Do You Say That I Am” – Episode 1.
Jesus asks his disciples who people think he is. There are several different answers, but the significant answer is whether or not THEY know who Jesus is. It is imperative that the disciples know who he is before they begin their grueling journey. Do you know who Jesus is as you go through your journey?

July Explanation Station – St. John Nepomucene Adult Faith Formation

July Explanation Station – St. John Nepomucene Adult Faith Formation

The ONLY Christian church in existence for the first 1,000 years of Christian history was the Roman Catholic Church. All other Christian churches which exist today can trace their lineage back to the Roman Catholic Church. Most non-Catholic churches which exist today are less than a century or two old by comparison.
