I like seeing everyone walking into Mass at St. John’s because they’re all so happy to be there. I like to volunteer at Feed My Starving Children, sing and play the violin in my mom’s choir, greet for Mass and being a Mass server. I also like to swim, do art, spend time with my family, play tennis, play the violin in the Lawrence Youth Orchestra and garden. A fun fact about me is that I have two middle names: Elaine Josephine, after my two great-grandmas. — Violet

I love the welcoming atmosphere of the St. John Community!
I moved out of the area briefly for college, but as a lifelong parish member and St. John School alum, returning back to St. John’s simply felt like returning home. There is something incredibly moving about returning back to the pews of St. John Church after being away. The people, the music, the message, all felt like no time had passed. I felt this same way when I returned back to in-person Mass after the pandemic. I recall sitting in the pew after Mass had officially ended, not wanting to leave. The comfort and peace I found being in our House of the Lord calmed all my concerns, again I felt like I had returned home.
When choosing a school for our children, there was no doubt that St. John School was where we would send our daughters. Similar to the welcoming nature of the church, the school is much the same. Many of the traditions I cherished as a child remain at St. John School today, with new traditions being folded in. The education, both religious and otherwise, have put my daughters on the path of success for their secondary education and beyond.
St. John School Board of Education – I enjoy being part of a formal committee that is used as a sounding board for administration, and policies/procedures.
St. John Parish Community Technology Committee – This newly established committee checks all the boxes for me. I love to see that my talents are contributing to advancing the technology of the school and the environment for our students.
Children’s Liturgy Leader – Seeing smiling, excited young faces during weekend Masses brings me so much joy. The recent updates to the Children’s Liturgy experience seek to highlight for all children that they know they are loved by God, that their lives have purpose and that they are never alone.
I also enjoy traveling with my family and watching my daughters participate in the sports they love. — Amber
