School Staff – Gwen Schmitt

Meet Gwen Schmitt — 2nd Grade Teacher

Serving St. John School since 2023

Why I love St. John School?

My favorite part of teaching is starting each day with my Classroom Family, eager and energized to learn!

My favorite part of teaching?

I love building relationships with each and every student of mine. Seeing them smile and laugh shows me that learning is fun, which is exactly how it should be! I also love to see growth academically and socially throughout the year.

What I like to do outside of school?

In my free time, I like to spend time with my husband and adult daughters Emily, Maria and Jenna. I love to stay active by running and playing Pickleball. One of my daughters recently got married and my husband and I have another daughter getting married in November. It has been a busy year!

My education

I graduated from Marquette University with a degree in Education, taught for eight years until my husband and I had our third daughter when I decided to stay home.

My professional training

When my youngest daughter went to kindergarten, I became the Education Coordinator at the Building For Kids Children’s Museum in Appleton. In 2016, I decided to go back to teaching in school and worked in the Oshkosh Public School System until accepting this position at St. John’s.
