Meet Stacey Hooyman — 1st Grade Teacher

Serving St. John School since 2025

Why I love St. John School?

I love being a part of St. John School because from the very beginning, I have felt so welcomed into both the school and parish community. The warmth and kindness shown by staff, students and families make it feel like home. I am especially grateful for the incredible support that everyone offers one another—it truly reflects the spirit of faith and family that makes St. John School so special. It is truly a blessing to come each day to a place where I feel connected, supported and part of something greater.

My favorite part of teaching?

I discovered my passion for teaching later in life, and it has truly been the best decision I’ve made. I feel so grateful to have found a career that I love going to every day. Being a partner in a child’s education is incredibly fulfilling—I cherish the opportunity to walk alongside students as they grow, not only academically but also socially and emotionally. One of my greatest joys is witnessing those “aha” moments when something finally clicks, and seeing the remarkable growth from the beginning of the year to the end. Teaching has brought me purpose and joy, and I feel blessed to share in the learning journey of each child.

What I like to do outside of school?

Outside of school, I enjoy spending as much time as possible with my family—my husband and our three active children. We especially love camping together and spending our summer days on the water boating and enjoying all kinds of water activities. In quieter moments, I love to read and listen to audiobooks, which let me explore new stories and ideas. One of my favorite pastimes at home might surprise some people—I actually enjoy mowing the lawn! There’s something very relaxing about cutting fresh lines into the grass and taking in the finished result.
