Why Catholic Bibles have more books than Protestant Bibles

The Catholic Church is entirely responsible for the composition of the Bible, which books are included, as well as the breakdown of the chapters and verses. There are 73 “books” in the Catholic Bible and 66 in the Protestant Bible. Protestants removed seven books because some verses were inconsistent with their theology.

Martin Luther removed Tobit, Judith, 1 and 2 Maccabees, Wisdom, Sirach and Baruch. He attempted to remove James and Revelation, but this was rejected by his followers and those two books stayed. Catholics are often accused of adding seven books, but despite this common belief, it is false. Older, pre-Protestant, Catholic translations of the Bible include them.

Knights of Columbus – Membership Drive in September

Knights of Columbus – Membership Drive in September

As I ponder, to write this note, greetings to the fine people of St. John Nepomucene parish.  Our worthy Knights of Columbus will be conducting a membership drive in the month of September.  You may see Knights sporting their shirts around church.  If you see one, say “hello” or “thank you” for being a Knight.  I asked some of our members what they liked about being a Knight and their responses humbled me as I felt tears form in my eyes.

The first worthy Knight Pat  said “It’s fun” as he quoted one of his college professors as saying “Do well by doing good”.  Many of the Knights common responses were, “ they liked the comradery of like minded men.” Our worthy Financial Secretary Marty,  commented, “It’s a great way to live out your Catholic faith by performing works of Charity.  Our humble Advocate, James commented, “forgive me if my response is not in line with the others, but …. It makes me a better person”.  Our Field Agent Dan,  who sells Knights financial investments for the protection of its members, said, “While I do make a living working as a Knights Agent, it gives me great satisfaction to offer consolation to grieving members, when they have lost a loved one.”  This man is not just an agent, he is a man of great integrity and faith.

For me personally, it was an amazing consolation, to have the 4th degree honor guard posted by my dad’s coffin, when He passed away.  I remember in later years of his life, his best friends were fellow Knights.

As this message must be brief-we are looking for new members to join the Knights of Columbus.  It’s an amazing opportunity to serve our parish, for a practicing Catholic man, 18-years or older.  God Bless! Vivat Jesus!!

Rod Runde, Grand Knight
